By way of Water is a Large scale Public Sculpture conceptualized in Joforo, Badagry In collaboration with the community’s reed weavers and installed in Benin in solidarity of both civilizations histories with water ways. In this context, By Way of Water becomes both a monument and a passageway. It honours water as a giver and bearer of memory, tracing its role in shaping Badagry’s identity and its historic connections to the Republic of Benin and the wider Bight of Benin coast; a region whose waterways were central to colonial encounters, migration routes, and the formation of sociopolitical networks that continue to shape West Africa.
